During my weekly meeting with my ELL student, we had a discussion about names, which led to a discussion of Chinese characters. I find this sort of thing fascinating, and I was really glad she was willing to indulge me.

I love my plaid fleece lounge pants.  They’re warm and comfy and even have pockets.

Usually, Doug can be found under this grey blanket with his living feline grey blanket on top (note all the cat hair).  Since Doug is out of town, I am using the grey blanket, minus the cat.

Apparently paisley originally came from Iran/Persia in the 18th/19th century.  It was later popularized in the west.  The name comes from the town of Paisley, Scotland, where the design was popularized, especially for bandanas. The word “bandana” actually comes from Hindu.

I haven’t been to South Station since the near-completion of the new design.  I have to say, it does look pretty great in there.

I had an Xray* which meant putting on one of these stylish hospital johnnies.  I had a choice of “medium” or “large-xlarge.”  So I took a medium and it was still stupid huge on me.  They must make these things in smaller sizes, right?  for kids?
*everything is fine.

Apparently, this style of laying bricks is called a “stretcher bond.”  While I understand it’s a good stable design, I’ve always just liked the look of it.  I often doodle this type of pattern.

I don’t tend to wear a lot of striped clothing.  Except for socks.  Because striped socks don’t make you look heavier than you are.

I helped out at a table at this event in Downtown Crossing. Some of the costumes were really clever, and some were really cute, and all of them made me smile.  And yes, I even did a very quick double-take when I spotted this fellow out of the corner of my eye.

I appreciated the simplicity of this choice of decorations.  A few pumpkins, some ghosts, and there you are.  I like it.
