Went to an ELL teacher workshop today. It was, essentially, about why English is so difficult to learn with all the weird spelling and pronunciation rules. Here was one thing I’d never heard before: geminates. Basically, you’re repeating the same consonant, not specifically the letter. I love stuff like this. Try saying these words aloud.

Volunteered today, staffing a table at a cat show. So many kitties! Of varying fur color, eye color, fluffiness, size…. I did enjoy seeing them all, but it felt a little weird to be there talking about adoption and shelters when so many people were there to talk about breeding their show cat, and selling kittens.
dangerous bump
This bump has been in our sidewalk since we moved in, a result of the nearby tree’s roots growing underneath. Last summer, we asked to have the tree removed. They finally did it this spring, which made the bump crack, and even more hazardous. I asked the tree guy about it, and he said I’d need to contact the city and definitely mention that a friend broke her fucking leg when she tripped on it over the winter.

So we painted it yellow, but continued to call it The Green Bathroom. Now, years later, the green bathroom is restored to actually being green.
