hangin’ on

I wasn’t planning to use another work picture today, but I thought this was so hilarious. It’s from the health and fitness exhibit; it’s just a turnstile. I was laughing so hard when I saw the kids doing this–look at the girl in pink. She’s not pushing at all. In fact she’s facing the opposite direction from the other kids and her feet are off the ground. She’s just along for the ride.

The other reason I like this picture is that I don’t think any of the kids in it know each other.

Egg-gineering

National Engineering Week continues at work. Today we did the classic egg drop activity. Kids were challenged to use materials from the Recycle Shop to create something that would protect their egg when it was dropped over a railing to the lobby below. Lots of fun. Huge mess.  Huge.

Here is one visitor leaning over the railing waiting for the verdict from a staff member below, who was tearing open packaging to see the outcome.

smoke ’em if you got ’em

This is my nebulizer, affectionately known as the “peace pipe.” In the ongoing quest to figure out how to treat my mystery cough (going on 4? years now), the doc has me taking an antibiotic with this thing. I’m on it til the end of the month, then off it for a month, then back on. It seems to help a bit, but still doesn’t explain why I have the cough in the first place.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Doug sent me flowers at work today. They were gorgeous–beautiful pink tulips and deep purple irises

They don’t really go with the rest of the look in my office. It’s February vacation next week, and we are celebrating National Engineering Week at the museum, which falls under my content area. So my office is full of engineering kits, ready to go for the week ahead.

out for a ride

This is Mister Pie. He is paralyzed, but his owner takes him out 4 times a day. Mr. Pie actually has his own set of wheels and he loves to run all over the place. But he is 15 years old, and sometimes he’s tired. So then his very kind (and friendly) owner takes him out on a cart.

homework?

I actually took a bunch of pictures today. One of them was of a pothole, but it was really hard to tell from the picture how deep it was. So I went over to a nearby dumpster to find something to give some perspective to the pothole, and instead spotted this:

All my other shots from the day are likely to be seen again. But this one was different. I wonder what the story is here: was this a project someone did, had returned, and decided not to keep? did the student decide this thing sucked and just pitch it and start again? what grade is this kid in? what exactly was the assignment?

things to ponder…

getting some air

Given today’s date and the general appearance of this picture, you may be wondering why is this guy standing outside, with snow all around him, relaxing and looking at the water without his coat? What you can’t tell from the picture is that it was over 50 degrees today. Seems our “January thaw” is a month late.

at the gym 2

this time I brought the camera to water aerobics. This type of class has a reputation for being only for old ladies, but it’s a great workout for anyone. The women in my class are all ages, and there’s one guy who’s a regular. I’ve noticed a difference in my ab strength and flexibility since I’ve started it, and it’s a lot of fun.
