I’ve always noticed that South Station is very well lit with natural light. The area where the trains are has no roof, but the platform where people wait does. It never really struck me that the platform is far brighter than one would expect. I’m sure I’d subconsciously been aware of the skylights, but I never paid them much attention before.

The theme for the week is “looking up.” I was thinking the other day that most people don’t tend to look higher than their heads, and at about 5 feet tall, I think I may be missing out. So I’ll spend the week casting my eyes and my camera upward.

Of course, today’s picture was taken at the doctor’s office. Ladies, I’m sure you’re all familiar with this view, or something similar.

Doug and I walked up to Moody  St tonight. It’s just over a mile to get up there, which is a nice distance if you’re going out to eat–not too far to be uncomfortable, but far enough that you can work off your dinner.

The Tall Ships are in town this week, and there were just masses of people going to look at them. This is one of those things that I wonder why people drag their very young kids to–look, honey, a big boat. No, you can go on it and no, it’s not going anywhere and there aren’t any pirates, but you can sure look at it.

(actually, to this day, that kind of sums up my opinion of many historical-type destinations. But I suppose the boats are pretty.)

I wound up rather unexpectedly spending the evening with friends  Greg and Jen. After dinner, we walked back to their place, which took us at least partly along the river. But the path leaves the river and goes through town at places, and there are blue heron feet painted on the ground to guide you.

The space shuttle really does go all around the world.

this has nothing to do with the theme, but how cute is this kid in a real spacesuit?

I know there are people out there who take taxis every day, all the time. I can’t imagine doing this. On the rare occasions that I do have to take a cab, I find it a wholly unpleasant experience.

This week’s theme will highlight all the different ways we use to get from point A to point B. I drove by this mini school bus farm today. I guess the school buses are on vacation for a little bit, until the day camps really kick in, and then they’ll be full of noisy kids again.

Another beautiful day and Doug and I were able to take out the canoe for the first time this season. There were a lot of lilypads, and I noticed as the wind flipped them up that they are red on the underside.
