euphemism

I passed by this lovely little flower box while I was wandering through the town of Vineyard Haven today. I think the sign can be approximately translated to mean “hey! you! don’t sit here!”

packing

At last! It’s time to head off to Martha’s Vineyard for a week. Packing for the Vineyard is a challenge, because it’s an island and subject to all kinds of weather. So I’ve got everything from tank tops to fleece jackets, sandals to rain shoes. And of course, plenty of books suitable for porch reading. Can’t wait.

birdie want a cookie?

so I went out and got myself a little treat in the form of a peanut butter cookie at local bakery and cafe flour. While I was enjoying my cookie, this little sparrow hopped up on the table and tried to carry it off, even though the cookie outweighed her by a good margin. I even tried to explain this to her, but she ignored me. Instead, she pecked a few crumbs away and ate them right there on the table. It was a pretty big cookie, so I didn’t really mind sharing.

That door on the right, by the way, is the office door, which has been removed and is leaning on the opposite wall. Every day, something new..!

out of the closet

This used to be our closet. But, in preparation for having the carpet removed and the floor installed, we had to take everything out of it. They said we had to do that so it would be easier for them to reach the space, but I think it’s just a handy place to keep all their stuff.

magic carpet ride

Or something.
Today was the start of our floor project. They came in and removed all the carpet from the upstairs rooms, the hall, the closets and the stairs. And, as expected, it’s a mess. The new flooring will go down over the next several days, and the stairs will be sanded and refinished.

It’s a big pain in the neck, but it will be really nice in the end.
