Penelope

I went to visit my best friend today, who is recuperating from surgery. She’s tired but otherwise doing very well. Partly because of Penelope here, who is cheerful and generally nice to have around, but also helps in finding comfortable sleeping positions.

The Pianist

Earlier this week, my coworker emailed to ask if I could assist with a pianist who was coming Saturday to help with the Art Studio program. She explained that his check and contract were on her desk, and it was his first paying gig and she expected him to behave appropriately. Which I thought was a really weird comment, until I found out who he was:

He charged us $2.00, and wore a tie because, as he told his mother, “it’s respectful.” He turned down an invitation to play with a friend because he had a “job” and he bowed after every song. He’s 7.

aw nuts

at first, when I walked by this little pile on the boardwalk, I thought someone had thrown up. But no, it’s just a pile of nuts, seeds and dried fruits. Maybe it’s for the gulls? or the pigeons? No idea.

parking lot

This car has been parked at the library for weeks. Not cool–the snowbanks have already eliminated a number of spaces, so it’s more difficult than usual to find a spot. I mentioned it to someone and she sort of shrugged. Useful.

snowpile

Doug and I went snowshoeing today for the first time this season.  Part of the trail was still fresh so we had to break it–no easy task. The snow has a crust on top now, and while the snowshoes keep you from sinking in up to your hip, you still sink in a bit, so it was tough going. But still fun and a good workout.

Our walk came to an end when we reached this obstacle.
