The East Asian educators at work have put out this three dimensional tree puzzle for visitors to hang wishes and thoughts on, just outside the Japanese House. Not surprisingly, it’s seeing a lot of activity.

Happy St Patrick’s Day! As usually happens, we had a performance by some Irish Step Dancers today. If your only experience with this is from Riverdance, check out this video to see how impressive even beginner dancers can be, and you’ll get a feel for what we had today.

7:00pm: peanut butter
I’ve been making homemade peanut butter for a few years now. It’s very tasty and doesn’t have any scary chemicals in it. And it takes all of 10 minutes. Less, if you like it very crunchy.
5:00pm: relaxing and reading
Currently reading Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier, who also wrote Girl with a Pearl Earring. I’ve read a number of her books, and while I only enjoyed one as much as I enjoyed Pearl Earring, they’ve all been quite good.
3:00pm : The Full Monty
The last time the Turtle Lane Playhouse did “The Full Monty” they really did it–the 6 leads took it all off with no special lighting, fog machine or anything. Just–BOOM. Today, they had the backlighting technique. Which makes me wonder if it malfunctioned last time, or if they decided it might have been a little too much. At any rate, it was a great show.
1:00pm: Kitchen Science
Today we looked at and tasted different fruits in their fresh forms and dried forms. Many children learned the truth about raisins and grapes, and at least one kid discovered that dried apples are really yummy! 
11:00am : circles
Pi Day is this Monday. Since pi as a concept is a bit advanced for most of our visitors, we’ll be celebrating circles instead. I spent part of my morning cutting out these arrows, which will be randomly hung around the building.
9:00am: on the train
Stealing another theme idea, I’ll be posting pictures at 9:00, 11:00 and so on for a week. Today’s picture should not be surprising–I’m on my way to work on the “generally reliable but when it screws up it really screws up” Commuter Rail.
TEN wooden animals
Doug and I bought these at the airport in Johannesburg. I’ve always liked them, though I suspect they make our cleaning service a little nuts.
