oobleck

Today for the outdoor science activity, we made oobleck.  For those who have never played with the stuff, you are seriously missing out.  It’s incredibly simple (and cheap) to make:  http://www.instructables.com/id/Oobleck/

salad bar

Fresh veggies are especially  nice in the summer, but salads are a  pain in the neck to make.  So year ago, we started prepping all the veggies at once, putting them in separate containers, and then pulling them out whenever we want a salad.  Allows each of us to custom make it, and it means if one thing goes off, the whole salad isn’t ruined.

post caterpillar

Day two of caterpillar-fest.  Even though the focus is on the caterpillars, they do, of course, turn into butterflies and moths, so there’s a few of them on hand as well.  This is a luna moth. I learned that their long wingtips actually mess up bats’ sonar, making them difficult for bats to catch.  Evolution!!
