waiting at the dock in Falmouth. Weather is on the humid side but otherwise gorgeous–a lovely way to start a vacation.

This fabulous creature appeared on the 3rd floor of the museum today, probably brought their on the backpack of some visitor. I brought her home and released her in the garden. This is, amusingly enough, not my first picture of a praying mantis, but the other one was part of a program, and therefore less surprising.

I managed to snap back the nail on my big toe today. It hurts quite a bit. I imagine it will look even prettier in the next day or so.

This bag has been sitting on the bridge over the train tracks for about two weeks. Maybe more. It clearly started as some actual food, possibly including a rotisserie chicken. I’m not sure. It’s certainly not recognizable anymore, although, strangely, it doesn’t smell.

I wore a shirt today that was just small enough that every time I stretched or reached for something, it would ride up to expose my belly. Like this:

The chicks are nearly as big as their parents now, but the adults still feed them. (hm….sounds like humans….)  In this shot, the adult has just horked up a tasty meal for the chicks to eat. I’m lucky I got this picture, because the fish was gone in seconds.

all cash registers everywhere should have a sign like this. just because you’re the customer, that doesn’t give you the right to be a jerk. (in spite of what many people seem to think.)

While at the Arnold Arboretum today, Doug and I spent quite a while watching a spider take down a caterpillar. I was fascinated.  Doug, having the better camera for this sort of thing, got in there and got some great shots.

when I take a shower, I let the water run out of the tub faucet for a moment before switching on the showerhead. for some reason, Parker finds this fascinating, and must investigate thoroughly.
