These are the stairs in front of my friends Michael and Sabrina’s house. They’re very rustic and attractive, but they lead up to a steep path and are not the greatest things to be walking on in wet weather. So no one uses them–everyone uses the side door, as is the case for many houses in New England.

There are many ways in and out of South Station. These head up to the train station proper from the Red Line T station.  It’s a pretty typical crowd–lots of people carrying bags, one guy with coffee, two girls carrying something weird, and no one looking quite awake yet.

You’d think that Newton, being Newton, would somehow have managed to have very nice train stations. But no. The platform is right next to the Mass. Pike, with stairs leading up to the bridge crossing above. Very utilitarian.

When I walk from the train station to work, there are a couple of routes I can take. Usually I decide based on which way the traffic lights are.  One route involves going down this little flight of stairs from the street, and walking along right next to the water. Which is certainly nicer if there’s something interesting to see, like jellyfish or a duck. But today, there was just water.

These are the main stairs in the museum. As stairs go, they’re pretty fun in that there’s lots of interesting things to see as you go up and down them. Not the least of which is the 3 story climbing structure that is always full of kids navigating their way through.

This week I’m looking at stairs. I realized the other day that I climb stairs a lot; when you have pneumonia and crossing the room makes you breathless, you become very aware of stairs.

These are the stairs at my dentist’s office. I don’t know if it’s carpet cleaner or what, but there is a very distinct peppery smell as you enter this building. I notice it every time.

The funny thing about this picture is that I was trying to get a picture of Parker washing his feet, but he was getting annoyed with me; he rolled on his side and started pawing at the camera, which ultimately made for a more interesting picture.

The fun thing about working with a theme is it’s making me look at things from a different point of view, and I’m actively searching for a particular subject, as opposed to just hoping to spot something vaguely interesting. However,  today I came around the corner of the staff offices and happened upon a pair of feet sticking out of someone’s cube.

It’s one of our floor staff, on her lunch break and lying on the floor while chatting on the phone.

I spotted the museum president walking around today with a new board member. I didn’t think it quite appropriate to ask if I could take a picture, but fortunately, they went and stood at the window for a moment and I was able to kneel down and get the shot before they turned.
