Like all good gingerbread houses, this one has Necco wafers for shingles.  It’s really the  only thing Necco wafers are good for, because lord knows, nobody wants to eat them.

This is the paper that tells you if you are a supertaster, a non-taster or somewhere in between.  For supertasters, like me, the instant it touches the tongue, it is immediately the nastiest bitter flavor you have ever experienced in your life and you want to cut your tongue out of your head to make it stop.  For non-tasters, like Doug, it tastes like paper.

It was quiet in Harvard Square tonight, even in the parking garage.  It must be finals week.

A double yolked egg for breakfast this morning!

Our friend Carlos makes these delicious little treats and we call them his “crack cookies” because there’s clearly something highly addictive in them, as evidenced by the pile of empty wrappers.

Doug has a system for Thanksgiving:  lots of notes about each dish, what happens when, so everything is ready at the same time.   He loves putting together this kind of meal for everyone.

Cranberries bubbling away on the stove, on their way to becoming cranberry sauce for tomorrow.

Looks like we’ll only be having this one sweet potato on Thanksgiving.  It weighs in at 2 pounds.

Or, in this case, oil and lemon juice.  The shallots float on the lemon juice, but sink through the grapeseed oil, just kind of hanging there in the middle.  Science!
