I made a set of wine charms for our trip to the Vineyard.  This is how much I enjoy this vacation with my friends–I don’t even drink, and I made wine charms!

No, not the kind you drink….the kind that you find in a railroad track!

At work today we set up some solar ovens for kids to check out.  The marshmallows definitely warmed and softened, but I wouldn’t really say they were roasted. Still fun, though.

It appears they’re making repairs to the platform at South Station.  I’m guessing it will stay like this, with only one section completed, for a good long time…until you can no longer tell the difference.

Fresh veggies are especially  nice in the summer, but salads are a  pain in the neck to make.  So year ago, we started prepping all the veggies at once, putting them in separate containers, and then pulling them out whenever we want a salad.  Allows each of us to custom make it, and it means if one thing goes off, the whole salad isn’t ruined.

Day two of caterpillar-fest.  Even though the focus is on the caterpillars, they do, of course, turn into butterflies and moths, so there’s a few of them on hand as well.  This is a luna moth. I learned that their long wingtips actually mess up bats’ sonar, making them difficult for bats to catch.  Evolution!!

The caterpillar folks were back at work today.  Usually, all of their caterpillars are native to New England, but this is a silkworm from China.

Doug’s office had their summer outing on Thompson Island today.  It was stinking hot, but the view of the city was lovely.  Note the enormous cruise ship, the Queen Mary I, docked in the harbor.

I guess it’s a little weird that I kind of like ironing.  I like the instant gratification.

(I know it’s totally weird to take a picture of an iron, but I really wanted to have a picture today, and nothing else really came along.)

I love the colors on this plant–pinks and blues that combine into some beautiful purples.  Ain’t Nature great?
