One of the pleasures of cooking this time of year is stepping out into the garden to retrieve some fresh herbs. Except for this year, when my herb garden is withered by drought and I am reduced to dried herbs like it’s the middle of the winter.
We departed the islandĀ from Vineyard Haven today, a day earlier than planned due to the approaching “post-tropical” storm Hermine. Our normal ferry (Island Queen) was cancelled, and even the Steamship Authority was diverting to Vineyard Haven due to high wind.
The fancy Caribbean restaurant that did not survive in Oak Bluffs a few years ago has moved to the VFW Hall, with much plainer surroundings but the same good food.
