The Salty Pig is a meat-centric restaurant and they have classic Far Side comics in the restrooms. Some have been edited.

In the family photo digitization project that I am undertaking, most of the B&W prints are yellowed, faded, or both, as you might expect. What surprised me, though, is how many of them have very high contrast — so much contrast that important detail and texture is not visible. I am amazed to find that I can restore this detail with modern technology. In this photo (which is on the good side of typical), notice the improved texture in my aunt’s dress and my dad’s shirt & face, and how much clarity is restored to the line of fish.

I’m making oxtail stew today, as befits the weather. As one does in, you know, mid-April.

As I said to my coworkers, Truck Day means something entirely different to us non-sports people. This week marks the beginning of a new Food Truck season in Dewey Square! Today I had a sopapilla, Avocado BLT. Yum!

You know you’re reheating good pea soup when it comes out of the container in one big structurally sound glob.

It’s reached that time of the year when we can sit on the porch, at least on some nights. This candle lantern came from my parents’ apartment. I don’t know where they got it (or why they kept it; they were prohibited from burning candles) but I like it quite a bit.

My green plate was deemed “too faded” at inspection this year, so today I had to trade it in for the modern red white & blue plates. I’ve had this one since my first car in 1991 so I’m sad to see it go.

We went for a lovely walk on Roosevelt Island in the Potomac River and saw this big statue of the man himself.

We were in DC this weekend for our nephew’s wedding. Here we see the happy couple during the pyebaek ceremony, a Korean wedding custom which (for this wedding) took place between the Western ceremony and the reception.
