Welcome to the Vineyard

Every year, seeing this lighthouse from the ferry tells me that I am now truly on vacation.

Strange heron

We went canoeing on the Charles today, where we saw this heron. Note the white neck: great blue herons usually have a much greyer neck. We’re unclear if this individual is an accidental visitor (the grey heron from Europe and the cocoi heron from South America look somewhat like this), a hybrid with a great white heron (from Florida), or if this coloration is just natural variation.  I’ve certainly never seen one like this before.

Strandbeests

In Dewey Square. Slightly cool, but overhyped.

Our house looks like crap!

The painting crew hand-scraped today.

Not Boris

A particularly mild-looking spider, though large: its outstreched legs would span a quarter. Outdoors, where such creatures belong.

Stuck

Track fire means no train for Doug and I got more familiar with JFK station than I ever intended to be.  Lis came to my rescue.

I think we overwhelmed Chris & Marie’s cat just a bit.

Alarming

Mangoes can be a pretty alarming color inside. Tasty though.

De-shingled

We’re having the old, failing cedar shingles on our house replaced prior to repainting. Today the contractor got a late start, but got the front stripped down and buttoned up for tomorrow’s rain.
