{"id":13,"date":"2010-12-22T15:26:49","date_gmt":"2010-12-22T15:26:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/costarica\/2010\/12\/22\/welcome_to_the_tropics\/"},"modified":"2010-12-22T15:26:49","modified_gmt":"2010-12-22T15:26:49","slug":"welcome_to_the_tropics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/costarica\/2010\/12\/22\/welcome_to_the_tropics\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the tropics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hot!&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Today we woke to the sound of howler monkeys, though they were long gone by the time we got up &amp; going.&nbsp; We took a nice trip to the local beach, where we saw some cool birds &amp; plants, walked around a bit, but mostly relaxed by or in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>Back at the lodge, there were monkeys!&nbsp; Red-backed squirrel monkeys are the most threatened monkey in this region, and we spent a large part of the afternoon observing them. We watched fascinated as a flock of toucans (which are bigger than these monkeys) came in and took control of the feeder platform full<br \/>\nof bananas.
