{"id":46,"date":"2020-02-23T21:10:15","date_gmt":"2020-02-23T21:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/booksequels\/?p=46"},"modified":"2020-02-23T21:10:46","modified_gmt":"2020-02-23T21:10:46","slug":"nothing-ventured-william-warwick-1-by-jeffrey-archer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/booksequels\/2020\/02\/23\/nothing-ventured-william-warwick-1-by-jeffrey-archer\/","title":{"rendered":"Nothing Ventured (William Warwick #1) by Jeffrey Archer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Characters<\/strong><br \/>\nWilliam Warwick: main character.\u00a0 Has always wanted to be a police officer, and in this book is the new DC (Detective Constable) for the Arts &amp; Antiquities Division.\u00a0 At the end of the book, Hawksby tells him that he will be sent to the graduates&#8217; promotion programmed, and promoted to Sergeant, and that he will be transferred to another department.<\/p>\n<p>Commander Hawksby:\u00a0 head of the department<\/p>\n<p>DCI (Detective Chief Inspector) Bruce Lamont:\u00a0 \u00a0Warwick&#8217;s direct supervisor<\/p>\n<p>DS (Detective Sergeant) Jackie Roycroft:\u00a0 a colleague.\u00a0 She botches a takedown of a presumed art theft, and is demoted<\/p>\n<p>Miles Faulker: presumed art thief.\u00a0 The department has been chasing him for years for the theft of a Rembrandt painting for the Fitzmolean Museum.\u00a0 At the end of the book, he is found not guilty of theft, but guilty of receiving stolen goods, and is sentenced to 4 years, suspended sentence.\u00a0 On the final page, at a ceremony where the museum celebrates the return of the Rembrandt, and his donation of a Rueben, he whispers in\u00a0 Warwick&#8217;s ear that he&#8217;d love to show him the original.<\/p>\n<p>Christina Faulkner:\u00a0 Miles&#8217;s soon-to-be-ex wife.\u00a0 She&#8217;s clearly up to something, apparently trying to steal all of Miles&#8217;s art before he can do anything, but her plan goes wrong when he finds out.\u00a0 At his trial, it&#8217;s unclear who&#8217;s lying more&#8211;her or Miles.\u00a0 She sneaks into William&#8217;s bed one night while he&#8217;s supposed to be supervising the transfer of paintings, and he goes along with it since she seems to be a valuable ally against Miles.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t tell Beth about this.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Julian\u00a0 Warwick:\u00a0 William&#8217;s father, a very successful and well known defense attorney, which is partly why William wants to be a police officer, to catch criminals instead of set them free, like his father<\/p>\n<p>Grace Warwick: William&#8217;s sister, also an attorney<\/p>\n<p>Booth Watson: Faulker&#8217;s attorney, and longtime nemesis of both Sir Julian, and the Arts and Antiquities Division<\/p>\n<p>Beth Rainsford:\u00a0 Warwick&#8217;s love interest.
