{"id":30,"date":"2016-03-20T21:49:36","date_gmt":"2016-03-20T21:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/booksequels\/?p=30"},"modified":"2016-03-20T21:49:36","modified_gmt":"2016-03-20T21:49:36","slug":"glass-sword-by-victoria-aveyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.parkercat.org\/booksequels\/2016\/03\/20\/glass-sword-by-victoria-aveyard\/","title":{"rendered":"Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mare, her brother Shade, prince Cal, best friend Kilorn and Captain Farley make their way to the island of Tuck, where The Corporal is leading an army of Red Guard and northern Lakelanders. \u00a0Mare&#8217;s family is there as well, and they are reunited. \u00a0 The Corporal (who happens to be Farley&#8217;s father) does not trust Cal and has him locked up, along with Mare, but Kilorn breaks them out.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the book is spent with Mare and her crew traveling around the kingdom looking for the other &#8220;newbloods&#8221; on the list created by Mare&#8217;s instructor, Julian, who she thinks is dead. King Maven is also hunting these people; Mare etc\u00a0find many bodies and empty houses as they are searching. \u00a0The newbloods, including some children, are taken to The Notch to train and perfect their skills. Some of the people they pick up:<\/p>\n<p>Nix: impetetrable to bullets and many other weapons<\/p>\n<p>Nanny: \u00a0shapeshifter<\/p>\n<p>Ada: \u00a0photographic perfect memory, can become an expert on anything by reading about it once<\/p>\n<p>Gareth: can manipulate gravity, and can fly<\/p>\n<p>Cameron: can shut off the abilities of others<\/p>\n<p>?? \u00a0: who can generate illusionary objects out of nothing<\/p>\n<p>Kesha (?): \u00a0can destroy objects with her mind<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end of the book, they stage a massive prison break, freeing many newbloods as well as Silvers who were imprisoned by Maven. \u00a0Among the prisoners are Julian and his wife, Sara, who is a healer. \u00a0Shade is killed during the break, and some of the other team members go missing. \u00a0The mind-manipulate Queen Elara (Maven&#8217;s mother) is also killed.<\/p>\n<p>After a brief rest back on \u00a0Tuck, Mare takes some of the team to attempt to break through Maven&#8217;s lines. \u00a0However, Maven traps them, and captures Mare, after she begs him to let the others go.
