My mother’s grandfather owned a coal company in Newton and Needham.  The town of Needham has restored the sign on the side of the historical office of that company, uncovered when the building next door was demolished.  I visited this site with my parents today.

The Charles river is still in flood stage from last month’s heavy rains.

A sure sign of spring in New England.

If only the town would publish schedules so we could sweep the sand off our driveways into the street!

This bowl contains two chicken eggs, the largest & smallest from the dozen we picked up recently from our meat CSA.

They probably average out to normal-sized eggs.

In Southboro, we saw wild turkeys all the time.  This is the first one I’ve seen in Newton; right along Rte 16, no less.

One of the delicacies of Jewish cuisine is beef tongue.  We were lucky enough to buy a beef tongue from our meat CSA this month, and Lis was very excited to eat it.  To me, it tastes like rich brisket.

I brewed beer with Greg at his house today.

I’ve had my Volvo for nearly 4 years, and today we passed a significant mile marker.

I ride my bike along the Charles River bike path for fitness.  This is a fairly crowded multi-use path, and so I have wanted a bike bell for some time.  Today was a nice sunny, warm Saturday, so I rode down to the local bike store to take care of it.

One temporary casualty of the Great Flood of 2010 was the screen on my phone — I had it in my pocket while working outside in a downpour, and it evidently took on some water.

The screen eventually dried out and is fine, though if you look closely you can see some marks where the water was.
