It’s so hot my sushi cooked on the walk back to my office.

I jest. The salmon is supposed to be like that. But I had a couple of coworkers going.

Free Ben & Jerry’s in the plaza outside my work today.

I discovered this yellow hornet nest (also called above-ground nesting yellowjackets) in one of our bushes when I went to water it — fortunately I saw them before they saw me. Now I have to wait for the insecticide to finish its work before I can try again. The bush really could use some water!

These almond-cranberry biscotti will help me with my diet. No, really: I’m taking them to work to give me a better option than buying breakfast.

Our B&B has several (occupied) bluebird houses. What a treat to see these pretty birds.

On our balloon ride we saw an eagle’s nest with one of this year’s eaglets, not yet bald.

We took a hot air balloon ride this morning, our third ever and second in Vermont. The pictures speak for themselves.

Update: Here are some photos from our previous Quechee balloon ride, in 1997, digitized from film prints. The first three are us; the fourth one is that evening with the same balloon but different passengers. If you zoom in you can just make out that the red truck says “Balloons over New England.”

We saw 2 kestrels today: one in captivity, and one in the wild from the backyard of our B&B. The latter was trying to hunt a crow, which was having none of it.

At the VINS nature center in Quechee, VT we saw dangerous animals, large and small. The former is in captivity; the latter just chose to build near the boardwalk.

Our B&B in Vermont has the “breakfast” portion on their deck. We’re not sure if this is a COVID adaptation, but on a nice morning it’s a good start to the day.

“Clearwater Pond” is definitely a misnomer, though.
