Steve brought Malort from Chicago for us to taste. Because he hates us, or at least our tastebuds.

With luck unplugging & re-plugging a bunch of connectors & ground lugs inside our washing machine (resetting 23 years of mild corrosion) fixed it. Either that or it needs this part, the motor controller: $857 used on eBay, in other words time for a new washer.

Indian pipe is a non-photosynthesizing plant that parasitizes fungus for its nourishment. When a spot of sunlight hits it, it stands out in the forest like a beacon.

Not confusing at all.

Last time we were under an air quality advisory for smoke from Western fires, it smelled vaguely like a campfire. Today, it smells like burning plastic and is giving me a headache.

It’s been such a wet summer we’ve got a profusion of mushrooms in our yard, including this fairy ring.
