Today I took the big camera to work, with the hope of catching one of the tall ships on its way into the harbor. No such luck — either my timing or the weather prevented such a view — but I did get a shot of the blades of the Hull wind turbine. At about 7 miles distant, they’re barely visible over the trees here.

This past weekend Kris and I went on a tour of local ethnic markets in Waltham. Among the items I bought is this Korean “multi rice,” the package for which is almost entirely unreadable for me. I’m not even sure it’s all Korean! Anyway, you mix some of this with the rice in your rice cooker to give it more flavor, texture, and color. We had this with various veggies and leftover roast duck tonight. Yum!

We went to visit my parents in Nashua yesterday, and picked up an end table that they don’t have room for anymore. I remember this piece from my childhood (it was my grandmother’s), but I recall it being much bigger. It fits in quite well in our front room.

Lis and I went for a paddle on the Charles this morning. We saw a bit of wildlife, including swans and cygnets.

Some folks came over and we walked to the Newton fireworks display. Pretty impressive!

Kris came over today, and we had a good time poking around the ethnic markets of Waltham. And Russo’s. We bought fresh lychee fruit and made martinis, then made a yummy meal for the three of us (Kris, Lis, and me).
Yes, I know they look like armored raspberries (before peeling), and like eyeballs or some kind of shellfish (after peeling), but they’re actually a yummy tropical fruit.

Tonight I fabricated the aluminum 4 x 12 to 3 1/4 x 10 adapter piece that represents a lesson learned from installing Michael’s microwave. Behind it on the computer screen you can see my template.

Today’s picture is of something that could be the result of thoughtful design, from a group of marketers and engineers who care about their product and want it to be well received. It could represent paranoia from those same marketers and engineers who feel their target audience can’t figure this out for themselves.
But most likely, it’s the result of a lawsuit because there really ARE several people out there who are too dumb to be able to figure out how to get a microwave oven out of a box without damaging it or themselves.

Today’s entry is your classic New England daylily, the kind that grow like weeds throughout the area. They are certainly taking over a couple of our flower beds.
