A helpful woodpecker pointed out a soft spot on our house’s trim this fall, and we’re having a carpenter in to fix it. Turns out the previous painters used a nonstandard way to fix this section: jam a rag in the hole, caulk it, and paint over the whole thing. Sharpie for scale.

I went out with colleagues to a great restaurant in Carlsbad, CA and for dessert you can make your own s’more.

Tell me without telling me that there was no line at security and now you’re 90 minutes early for your flight.

Lis and I went to a dog halloween costume parade in Boston. The very first group out of the gate was also one of my favorites. If you can’t see it well, their chihuahua, in a lobster costume, is inside the trap.

 

Friends Michelle and John are retiring to Malaysia and threw a bitchin’ “Bye, bitches!” party with a great Duran Duran cover band.

My new phone’s camera can zoom to 30x optically, and then if you zoom in more it will use AI to enhance/sharpen the image. But like all AI content it’s just making stuff up that looks like it should be there. This is a picture of some text on a bag of lawn fertilizer, pretty far away.

Anna’s Taqueria is opening a location close to my work, which I’ll be happy to add to my regular rotation. I had an appoointment at MGH today so I grabbed a preview burrito from their store near there.

Crews were setting up to film for a movie downtown this morning, evidently a new one from Mark Wahlberg.

When I went to play my new record I discovered that neither of my turntables was in working order — not shocking; they’re from 1976 and 1981 respectively. I hope I get 40+ years out of the new one, too.

I cooked a bunch of smoked food to share with friends for my birthday. Pulled pork and sliced smoked pork belly from the Traeger, and a big batch of chili simmered over wood fire in the Weber kettle.
