Here’s what the back of our house looks like right now. From right to left, the light from the deck relocated to the back, speaker wire where one of the two speakers you see here will be relocated, window over prep area from the outside, and the old back door removed and partially re-framed for the new window there. It looks like they encountered some dry-rot below where the old door was (not well installed), so they’ll have to rebuild a little more than anticipated.

The window over where the prep counter will be was installed today.

Dear water heater,

This was not a good time for you to have your little meltdown.

Today the electrical rough-in started.

This is a view of the pending kitchen that gives some idea of how it will shape up. The framed-in portion in the corner is a pantry; there will be cabinets & counters on just about all the wall surfaces you can see.  The shop-vac will, we hope, be gone by the time the project is done.

We ended Lis’s birthday evening at Finale. They seated us outside, which was probably for the best for both us and the rest of the patrons.

Loay’s excellent dog.  We aspire to have a dog this well mannered some day.

In the “things I did not realize” department: a kickspace heater is so efficient at extracting heat from heating pipes that if you ran all the hot water through it, nothing downstream would get any heat. So they have to use a diverter tee to send only some of the water through.

This rabbit came within 10 feet of us in our yard tonight.  Twice. Close enough that this photo was taken with my phone.

We went for a walk in the woods today, and this time I brought the wildlife lens.  So where do I get the best shots of the day? Back home, off the front porch, of course!  These are Palm Warblers.
