Nice dinner out at Tempo in Waltham tonight.  I have to admit, this beer was not what I was expecting when I ordered it, but it was excellent. Brewed in Framingham, too.

I drove to the train today rather than biked, due to weather. My car was the first one in the lot this morning.

An advantage of my September experiment: I walk right by Rosie’s Bakery in South Station. This morning the blueberry scones were fresh out of the oven, and still warm by the time I got to the office.

I bought myself a manual coffee grinder.  Evidently it’s Japanese.  There’s not a lick of English on the box or instruction sheet. Good thing the instructions are basically “Put in coffee.  Turn handle.”

Q: What happens to the ends of the proscuitto ham that are too small to be sliced & sold for $18/pound? 
A: Lis buys them (for pennies on the dollar) and Doug turns them into yummy risotto, pasta, or soup.

My brother has a house on a pond in North Reading.  We visited today for an end-of-summer party.  It was a bit too windy for kayaking.

The price/quality relationship of LED light bulbs has been moving in the right direction for several years, and now more unusual bulb types have started to be come available.  These are “Sexy LEDs” brand chandelier bulbs, with the individual LED chips mounted on little stalks that look like flower stamens. The best part is, they consume 1/8 the power of the incandescents they replaced – 30W for the entire chandelier.

The “goodie bag” given out by my dentist shares a theme with Smarties, Mike & Ike, and other disappointing candy given out at Halloween.
