A company in Cambridge sells reclaimed lumber, and I found these chestnut boards with which to build our console table / bar for the loft. The top will be one board, 16.5 inches wide and 7.5 feet long.

I plan to build a window seat into the dormer in the loft. Today I took a baby step toward making it a cozy place to curl up with a book: a switch for a wall-mounted reading light, and a place to plug in your device for charging. 

Bonus picture: my reward for a weekend of hard work: a blood-orange sidecar. It’s every bit as tasty as it looks.

Michael, Greg, and I ripped up the carpet in the loft today. We also pulled up one panel of plywood to make sure what’s underneath is not suitable for restoration. Sure enough, it’s subfloor with huge gaps and knotholes — nice old wood with a lot of character, but not useable as a primary floor.

I’ve set up my new monitor, selected partially for this purpose, as a temporary TV viewing station for use while the loft is ripped apart. We can watch DVDs, Netflix (thru Chromecast), or our normal TV (thru MythTV).

I’ve ripped up the carpet & pad in the closet in the loft, so I can move some stuff in there until it’s time to put down the new flooring. I guess this project is underway!

These cherry blossoms are just on the edge of my color vision: sometimes they look pink to me, and sometimes they look white.

The City of Quincy is reconfiguring the streets in front of my workplace. The work begins with the removal of this traffic island.

Grill-roasted pork rib roast, in honor of Lis’s actual birthday.

I installed a new car stereo in Lis’s car today. The biggest differences since the last time I did this: I used a laptop to look up some of the wiring details, and the connectors are smaller.

For Lis’s birthday party, we had an opportunity for our friends to meet some cool animals. This is Zema the umbrella cockatoo, saying hello to Claire, Lis, Jeff, and Michael.
