Modern LCD screens are more complex at the pixel level than you would expect. This is the pixel structure of our new TV. Each vertical colored stripe is about 0.25 mm wide, and is broken up into quite a few sub-pixels.

Who would guess that this photo was taken atop a major interstate highway? The Big Dig may have been a ridiculously expensive project, but it did great things for the Boston waterfront.

My bike pump broke while we were on the Vineyard this year. I was able to repair the damage, but it’s not working as well as it was. Given that this pump is about 15 years old I decided it would be best to just replace it. I’m happy to report the manufacturer still makes a very similar model.

These are from Boston Organics.  They claim to be “snack-size bell peppers”. The one I tried was sweet and mild. I intend to check each one for heat before use, because they certainly look like they could be trouble.

That’s the year historic Quincy City Hall was built. It is currently undergoing an extensive renovation. This week most of the scaffolding came off the outside of the building, revealing granite stonework that is about 3 shades lighter in color than when they started.

I’ve seen this cat off & on from the commuter rail from time to time (just outside of South Station), so I guess he/she is doing OK.

Purple long beans from the farmer’s market. As seen on Lis’s post, unlike purple string beans, they don’t lose their color when cooked!

The label on this wine (from my wine club) is a real throwback stylistically.
