Pumped

My bike pump broke while we were on the Vineyard this year. I was able to repair the damage, but it’s not working as well as it was. Given that this pump is about 15 years old I decided it would be best to just replace it. I’m happy to report the manufacturer still makes a very similar model.

Peppers

These are from Boston Organics.  They claim to be “snack-size bell peppers”. The one I tried was sweet and mild. I intend to check each one for heat before use, because they certainly look like they could be trouble.

1844

That’s the year historic Quincy City Hall was built. It is currently undergoing an extensive renovation. This week most of the scaffolding came off the outside of the building, revealing granite stonework that is about 3 shades lighter in color than when they started.

Fermentation

I bought Sandor Katz’s The Art of Fermentation and this is my first attempt: farmer’s market green beans and garlic in a simple brine (plus a coworker’s hot pepper in one jar). These will ferment on their own, as I have read, due to the naturally-occurring lactic acid bacteria on the vegetables.
