I want to be able to read my house’s gas meter and import the reading into home automation so I can track usage more finely. I ran across a project to use standard computer vision algorithms to do just this sort of thing. Today I did some proof-of-concept experiments, and here’s as far as I got: finding the outlines of the dials. I think this may just work.

Italian-braised oxtail for dinner tonight. We had been saving these for a big snowstorm (that never came), but the 1-week anniversary of Not Going In to the Office seemed like a good occasion.

My brother uncovered another box of family photos a while back and I am getting around to processing them. It contains many treasures, but sadly is quite mixed, containing photos from 1900 to about 2009. I’ve got my work cut out for me.
