Tonight’s post was going to be about my experience commuting by train this past month. That will have to wait: there was a huge fire 2 blocks over from my office today. This is the view from our big conference room.

Gandalf
After a long day out & about, it was nice to come home and hang out with the kitties for a little while. Here’s Gandalf being adorable.

One last mojito
This is probably the last mojito of the season, using some birthday presents: maple muddler, Boston shaker, pretty little highball glasses.
Tools of the trade
Almost everything a Software Engineer needs to work from home.
That little thermos pot is the best $12 I ever spent on coffee stuff.
New car
Brand new Commuter Rail car, that is. This evening I got to ride car #815, which I believe has been in service for less than a week.
Laces
New shoelaces. Not noteworthy, perhaps, for anyone but the wearer.
Storm drain
For some reason, the city tore up & re-set the storm drain in front of our house today. Maybe they’ll fix the asphalt before winter.

Packaging
I mail-ordered a new pan for myself, which came today, inside 3 boxes and a paper bag. Seems somewhat excessive. At least there were no packing peanuts.
For my friends who cook: it’s a Mauviel stainless-lined copper saute pan, from France. Expensive, yes, but I anticipate it’s worth every penny.
Taza
We went on a tour of the Taza chocolate factory today — see Lis’s and Kat’s 365 posts as well. This is one of the granite stones they use to grind the cacao beans.
Bonus picture: the cacao beans for every Taza chocolate bar ever sold were roasted in this one small roaster.
Anti-gravity plates
I went to China Fair today — a great place to stock up on everyday plates/glasses/etc. What I didn’t realize until I looked at this picture is that I accidentally bought levitating anti-gravity snack plates!
