No. 1 Common White

The contractor ripped up the old oak floor in our ex-sunroom today. Evidently the flooring contractor wasn’t happy about the idea of putting new strip flooring down over the old. Here’s one of the old boards, from 1935, still with the manufacturer’s label on the back.

Yes, that’s the same “Bruce” that’s still selling hardwood flooring today.

MythTV

I upgraded Hitchcock to Mythbuntu 12.04 and MythTV 0.25 today. As you can see, not all went as smoothly as could be hoped. It’s recording & playing back now, but hangs on shutdown and doesn’t auto-login the mythtv user yet.

Wedge

I had to take down the Barrister bookcase today to run some speaker wires, so I took the opportunity to make a couple wedge shims to replace the little bits of wood that had been leveling it. It certainly looks more stable, even if the actual points where it touches are the same.

Back of house

Here’s what the back of our house looks like right now. From right to left, the light from the deck relocated to the back, speaker wire where one of the two speakers you see here will be relocated, window over prep area from the outside, and the old back door removed and partially re-framed for the new window there. It looks like they encountered some dry-rot below where the old door was (not well installed), so they’ll have to rebuild a little more than anticipated.

Corner

This is a view of the pending kitchen that gives some idea of how it will shape up. The framed-in portion in the corner is a pantry; there will be cabinets & counters on just about all the wall surfaces you can see.  The shop-vac will, we hope, be gone by the time the project is done.
