I finally made it to the famous Russo’s tonight. I have no idea what these things are, how you cook them, or even how to get close enough to try.
I suppose a blowtorch might do the trick.

Yo!!! It’s rambutan, my favorite fruit everrrrrr! Just peel off the hairy stuff and eat the inside fruit. Tastes sort of like a white grape. Watch out for the huge seed though. You got to tell me if they were sweet and juicy (when they are in season in south-east Asia), or just dry weird stuff (as I fear after they’ve been on a boat for a while for transport).
It’s also one of the fruits that takes it’s internationally-recognized name from the Indonesian language. Rambut is “hair”, so rambut-an is “hairy thing”.
